Joensuu-based deeptech startup SeeTrue Technologies has raised €2.2 million in a funding round led by ZEISS Ventures, with participation from Superhero Capital, North Karelia Growth Fund (managed by Redstone Nordics), Luminate, Piotr Frasunkiewicz, and existing angel investors. Founded in 2018, the company develops ultra-low-power eye-tracking technology designed for smart glasses, medical optical systems, and industrial applications, aiming to reduce the size, power consumption, and computing requirements of eye-sensing hardware. The fresh capital will be used to accelerate commercialization of its eye-sensing architecture, expand its team in Joensuu, and strengthen international go-to-market efforts while leveraging its new investors’ industry expertise and commercial networks.
As tech giants race to move AI-enabled wearables from concept to consumer reality, the industry faces significant technical challenges integrating robust, highly accurate eye-tracking into devices where size, weight, and computing power are strictly limited. SeeTrue is designed to tackle these integration hurdles through a proprietary system-level co-design that combines miniature sensing hardware with highly optimized embedded processing.
Roman Bednarik, CEO and co-founder of SeeTrue Technologies: “We aren’t just improving eye tracking; we are shrinking it to fit the future of wearable tech. If XR and AI glasses are supposed to achieve mass adoption, eye-tracking must become invisible to the user but significantly more powerful for the device. With the backing of ZEISS Ventures, Superhero Capital, NKGF, Luminate, Piotr Frasunkiewicz, and our angel investors, we are now expanding our Joensuu team to accelerate our international commercial work to meet emerging market needs.”
By leveraging an anatomically grounded architecture and dynamic sensing logic, SeeTrue’s system-level architecture aims to simplify integration of eye-tracking sensors. This approach enables gaze-based interaction, attention-aware computing, user-state understanding, and workflow-tracking across various applications while significantly reducing compute requirements and hardware footprint common in current-generation systems.
Julian Schroth, Investment Manager at ZEISS Ventures: “SeeTrue is developing eye-tracking technology that has the potential to make human-machine interaction more intuitive, efficient, and seamless across healthcare and other professional workflows. We believe the company is well positioned to address key industry challenges and unlock new ways for people to interact with digital systems.”
Beyond capital, the newly strengthened investor base supports SeeTrue’s access to commercial networks. This includes backing from Luminate — the world’s largest accelerator for optics, photonics, and imaging-enabled startups — and strategic execution support from industry veteran, advisor, and new investor in this round, Piotr Frasunkiewicz.
Juha Ruohonen, General Partner, Superhero Capital: “Building a category-defining hardware-software platform requires exceptional technical depth and a large underserved market. SeeTrue has both the technology and the team to capture that opportunity. We are thrilled to back this world-class team as they scale a globally competitive standard for eye-tracking.”
