Nordic data center firm Bulk Infrastructure has acquired a plot of land in Arendal, Norway.

At a council meeting last week, Arendal officials approved the sale of plot no. 25, block no. 121 on Longum Nord, for NOK 600 million ($60.47m).

According to a presentation to officials, Bulk aims to develop a data center on the site, which is located within the Eyde Material Park. The company aims to have a 150MW grid connection by the end of 2029.

In negotiations since May, Bulk is acquiring the site via Bulk Data Centers Arendal AS. The plot in question is owned by the Arendal Municipality, which bought it in 2024 for NOK 200 million ($20.16m) with plans to host a new recycling facility for municipal-owned waste management company Agder Renovasjon. Plans for the recycling center were dropped last year.

Arendal is a municipality in the Sørlandet region on Norway’s southern coast, some 250km southwest of Oslo.

Owned by Otra Holding, the Eyde Material Park totals 250 hectares, and claims to have power availability totaling 800MW. The Longum Nord portion totals 82 hectares.

Battery firm Morrow was meant to be a major customer of the park, but filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. The previously planned recycling center was dropped partly due to Morrow at the time saying it needed more space for its battery manufacturing plant.

Acting mayor Inger Brokka de Ruiter told local press that proceeds from the land sale to Bulk will be used to pay off the municipality’s high debt.

Bulk is a Norwegian data center operator. The firm runs the N01 data center campus located near Kristiansand. Construction on N01 first began back in 2014, and the site totals 400MW, with potential to reach 1GW. N01 was recently selected by CoreWeave to host an Nvidia GB200 NVL72 cluster deployment.

The company also operates a site in Oslo and one in Esbjerg, Denmark.
