Luxembourg data center operator LuxConnect has completed the installation of 656 solar panels on the roof of its DC1.3 facility in Bettembourg, adding 300kWp of on-site solar capacity.
The data center, which was energized in 2015, is the largest facility on LuxConnect’s Bettembourg campus, offering 5,500 square meters (59,201 sq ft) of server space. The larger campus has a capacity of 18MW, making it the largest site in the country.
The company said that further rooftop installations are in the works at its DC2 site in Bissen, with additional projects planned for a forthcoming multi-level car park in Bettembourg and a new administrative headquarters.
LuxConnect was established in 2006 by the Luxembourg government, which remains its sole shareholder, and operates four data centers across campuses in Bettembourg and Bissen.
Last year, the company was selected alongside Proximus Luxembourg to develop a sovereign cloud for the country. The sovereign cloud will be developed by Clarence SA, a joint venture between the two companies, and will be dedicated solely for governmental use.
Luxembourg’s data center market is growing rapidly, with more than 20 colocation facilities currently in operation across the country. LuxConnect is the largest operator in the country and also includes colo providers such as Portus and Datacenters Luxembourg.
