A former banking data center in Yorkshire, UK, is set to be used to manufacture prefabricated houses.
As reported by local press, including the Telegraph & Argus and the Halifax Courier, Younger Homes (Northern) Ltd has filed with Calderdale Council to use the former Copley Data Center on Wakefield Road in Copley to manufacture prefabricated houses.
The company aims to reuse 22,000 sqm (237,000 sq ft) of vacant office floor space in the existing building. Younger Homes is currently based out of the Vine Industrial Estate in Brighouse, but the site is constrained, and there is no room for expansion.
Halifax is a town in the metropolitan borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire. The former data center site dates back to the 1980s, and was previously owned and operated by Lloyds Bank.
The 55-acre site totals 25,550 sqm (275,000 sq ft) across offices, data halls, warehousing, and a stand-alone energy center.
Originally, the main data center for Halifax Bank before its merger with Lloyds, the bank in 2022 announced it would be closing the site and relocating staff to its Halifax HQ. The facility was put up for sale in 2024.
Lloyds has previously announced plans to convert an old data center and office site in Pudsey, West Yorkshire into social housing.
