The head of energy sourcing strategy for Google’s data centers and colocation facilities across Europe has left for France’s Mistral.

Marc Oman spent nearly 12 years at Google, and is joining the newly formed Mistral Compute segment, a subdivision of the AI lab that provides private HPC resources for training and running artificial intelligence models.

“As a French-American who’s lived, studied, and worked on both sides of the Atlantic, I believe in Europe’s right to shape its own technological future,” Oman said on LinkedIn.

“European tech sovereignty isn’t just a goal, it’s a necessity. It’s about preserving European values, reducing dependence on foreign hyperscalers, and ensuring Europe has a voice in the AI era. This is a complex, monumental challenge but one I feel ready to take on.

“I’m honored by the trust Timothee Lacroix and the Mistral leadership team have placed in me. I can’t wait to collaborate with the incredible Mistral Compute team to accelerate our mission. I am also excited to discover the company’s brand new HQ offices in Paris, where I’ll be based.”

Oman said that he personally led the closing by Google of 2GW+ of solar and wind PPAs in nine countries (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden). Mistral in August said that it planned to deploy more than 1GW of compute in Europe by 2030.

This week, the company raised €3 billion ($3.48bn) in a Series D round, with Mistral noting that it planned to spend a large portion of its funding on compute.
