Microsoft has launched an Azure Extended Zone in Luxembourg.

In a LinkedIn post, the company revealed that, along with Post Luxembourg, it had launched a new Azure Extended Zone in the country, which will bring Microsoft’s cloud capabilities “closer to Luxembourg and give organizations greater choice around residency, performance, and compliance.”

Microsoft describes Azure Extended Zones as “small-footprint extensions of Azure placed in metros, industry centers, or a specific jurisdiction to serve low-latency and data residency workloads.” It offers a select number of services, including compute, storage, and networking.

Commenting on the launch, Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, said: “This new cloud infrastructure will enable businesses and public sector organisations to develop and use AI-powered services locally, securely, and in compliance with European data protection regulations. It also provides businesses and SMEs with an additional foundation on which to advance their digital transformation and develop new digital services.

“For Luxembourg, this is another significant step forward in our digital transformation, strengthening our country’s position as a trusted digital hub at the heart of Europe. This collaboration between post Luxembourg and Microsoft demonstrates how public and private organizations can work together to create practical solutions for Luxembourg’s digital future.”

Microsoft previously stated its intention to expand its cloud computing services in Luxembourg in January 2026. It said at the time that it would “bring cutting-edge cloud solutions closer to Luxembourgish businesses but also aligns with the national strategy for digitalization, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.”

Post Luxembourg’s data centers are operated under DEEP – a merger of Digora, EBRC, Elgon, and Post Telecom. The company has three data centers located in Windhof, Kayl, and Betzdorf, each of which offers 5,000 sqm (53,820 sq ft) of dedicated IT space and shared rooms.

Microsoft’s Azure Extended Zones launched in 2024, starting with Los Angeles, and also offers the solution in Perth, Australia.
