French energy firm Valorem is looking to develop a data center in Savonlinna, Finland.

First reported by local press, Valorem Energies Finland and the city of Savonlinna have prepared a zoning agreement to allow for the development of a data center.

The company is looking to develop on 32 hectares in the Nätkin industrial area. The first phase could offer 30-50MW from 2028, growing to more than 100MW by 2032.

The campus would make its waste heat available for use in the local district heating network.

Savonlinna is a town in southeast Finland, in the South Savo region.

An amendment to the local city plan to allow for the project will now proceed to the city council for consideration at the end of September.

News that Valorem was first planning a data center in Savonlinna surfaced in May.

Valorem has some 1.5GW of energy projects in development or operation around Finland across wind, solar, and hydroelectric sites. Founded in 1994, the firm has more than 8.5GW of projects under development or operation across Europe.

The company is also looking to develop a 60MW data center and solar & storage campus on 55 hectares in Eurajoki in Western Finland.

Valorem also has a project in the works in the Halme industrial area in the city of Kankaanpää in southwest Finland. Full details on the project haven’t been shared.
