The Denham Parish Council has filed an objection to a 60,000 sqm (645,835 sq ft) data center proposal in Buckinghamshire, UK.
The proposal, submitted to Buckinghamshire Council on June 1, 2026 by real estate firm Mulberry Commercial Developments II, calls for the construction of two data center buildings on land on either side of Denham Court Drive, near the village of Denham.
These land parcels are zoned Green Belt land, and it is used through the summer months for the Denham Giant Car Boot Sale, which claims to be one of the largest in the Greater London area.
“We’re not resistant to change. We know data centers are needed, but a lot of care has to be taken about where they are sited, and this site is wholly inappropriate. The land is designated as Green Belt for good reason and should be protected,” says parish councilor and committee chairman Alan Head.
“The development would also be unacceptably close to residential property. As a parish council we defend the Green Belt, and we object to having a monster building like this at the end of residents’ back gardens, overshadowing their homes.”
The statement also mentions that the council has “circulated Denham residents with information about the data center proposal, calling on them to register their own objections.”
The Parish Council, as well as several Buckinghamshire Council councilors, have also requested that the application be “called-in” to committee, which would put the decision in the hands of elected councilors rather than a council planning officer.
Based in Northamptonshire, Mulberry Commercial Developments specializes in industrial property for the logistics industry. Its website lists a host of large warehousing projects, but does not appear to feature any data centers.
Buckinghamshire, located in southeast England next to Slough, is seeing growing interest from the data center sector. A campus worth £1 billion ($1.3bn) was approved for construction near Pinewood Studios back in February, and the fate of a proposed 300MW campus is set to be decided by the UK Government after it decided that the project would be considered a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
