Amazon has signed a 90MW Power Purchase Agreement with Egg Power to offtake from the Chirmorie Wind Farm in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
The PPA is the largest onshore wind deal signed in the UK market, representing the 50th project the company has backed in the country. Other projects include nine off-site wind and solar farms and 41 on-site solar installations across its logistics estate.
The Chirmorie Wind Farm is a consented 90MW onshore wind project located approximately 5km (3.1 miles) southwest of Barrhill. Construction is currently underway, with operations slated for sometime in 2028. SP Energy Networks is linking the site into the national grid via the nearby Mark Hill Substation. Egg Power, Liberty Global’s renewable energy infrastructure investment business, will be the primary developer on the project.
“Signing the UK’s largest ever onshore PPA is a landmark moment, not just for egg Power, but for the UK renewable energy sector as a whole,” said Ilesh Patel, who leads the Egg Power business at Liberty Global. “There are large numbers of projects that lack the customers and funding to move them from a vision to reality, and we are proud to collaborate with customers like Amazon to turn them into infrastructure.”
“Our 50th renewable energy project is an important part of our commitment to the UK,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager. “Backing locally produced carbon-free energy matters for both the communities where we operate and for the country’s long-term energy security.”
Amazon has signed multiple PPAs within the UK market, including deals with ERG in Northern Ireland, Iberdrola in East Anglia, and Ocean Winds in Scotland.
Egg has begun to target the digital infrastructure and telco sectors as a crucial offtaker. In April, the firm signed a ten-year PPA with Virgin Media O2. The company is currently building out its renewable portfolio, targeting 1.5GW of capacity by 2028, tied to long-term PPAs.
