Data center operator Global Switch has signed a 10-year corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Drax Energy Solutions to support its UK operations.
The CPPA will see Drax act as the intermediary between Global Switch and an undisclosed energy generator to supply 55GWh of solar power per annum to the data center operator. The CPPA will come into effect in January 2027 and is expected to cover 30 percent of the data center company’s UK power demand.
“Businesses are continuing to look for ways to manage energy market volatility while supporting their sustainability goals. For energy-intensive sectors such as data centers, long-term agreements like CPPAs can provide greater certainty over costs and supply. We’re pleased to continue supporting Global Switch as part of its wider energy strategy,” said Callum O’Reilly, CPPA strategic originator at Drax Energy Solutions.
The deal builds on a previous CPPA between the two companies signed in 2025. The deal saw Drax agree to supply 70GWh of power to Global Switch, covering 35 percent of its energy needs in the UK. With the signing of the latest CPPA, the two agreements will cover approximately 70 percent of the company’s UK energy usage.
“At Global Switch, we have both a responsibility and a unique opportunity to facilitate a sustainable, technology-enabled world,” said Gavin Greer, group procurement director at Global Switch. “Partnering with Drax on our Corporate Power Purchase Agreements has enabled us to secure reliable, renewable energy at predictable costs. This gives us the confidence and resilience to navigate energy market volatility and focus on delivering high-performance.”
Drax formally launched its CPPA sleeving service at the start of the year. According to the company, the end-to-end solution enables customers to contract with independent renewable generators while Drax manages the supply, transfer, and administration needed to integrate that power into their existing electricity contract.
Global Switch operates three data centers in the UK, all located on a single interconnected campus in London’s Docklands. The facilities include the 87MW London East facility, the 18MW London North facility, and the 35MW London South data center. The campus hosts H100 and H200 GPUs for CoreWeave, in what Global Switch claims is Europe’s largest deployment of the Nvidia hardware.
