Mavenir Telecom has secured a contract to deploy small cells for Georgian mobile network operator MagtiCom.
As part of the agreement, software company Mavenir will support its full range of 4G and 5G small cell technology for MagtiCom, Georgia’s largest telecoms provider.
Mavenir’s small cells offering spans hardware, software, management, and orchestration solutions.
The technology provided was picked by MagtiCom following a trial earlier this year. Mavenir will begin its nationwide deployment during the second quarter of this year, starting with beta testing for priority residential, small office, and enterprise customers ahead of full roll-out later this year.
Small cells are designed to enhance mobile capacity and reduce network congestion in densely populated areas.
They are typically fixed to existing street furniture, such as lamp posts, and seen as a simpler alternative to bulkier telecom infrastructure, which might look out of place or draw criticism from residents.
Mavenir has notably worked with several telcos to deploy small cells, including AT&T, Three UK, and Virgin Media O2.
Last year, Rick Mostaert, vice president of product management at Mavenir, told DCD that the deployment of small cells forms a key part of the company’s Open RAN strategy.
Vasil Melikidze, chief technology officer, MagtiCom, noted that the partnership with Mavenir will enable the carrier to “extend capacity, boost indoor coverage, and support the growing demand for high-speed mobile data.
“This strategic collaboration will enhance the digital experience for our customers and reinforce MagtiCom’s role in driving Georgia’s next chapter of mobile innovation,” said Melikidze.
Sachin Karkala, EVP & general manager IMS & RAN, Mavenir, added: “This national small cell roll-out for MagtiCom really underscores Mavenir’s ability to transform the mobile user experience at scale. From residential to enterprise and rural applications, our small cell solutions deliver the capacity, coverage, and energy efficiency operators need in a uniquely accessible form factor– easy to deploy, fully automated, highly scalable, and adaptable.”
MagtiCom provides mobile, fiber Internet, IPTV, and VoIP to more than three million customers.
