US carrier AT&T and neutral host provider Boldyn Networks have extended cellular coverage across additional tunnel segments of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) 4/5 and G Lines.
Mobile coverage is now live on 4/5 lines between Bowling Green and Fulton Street stations and the Crosstown G line between Bedford-Nostrand Avenues and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets stations.
Boldyn is currently working with mobile carriers to deliver cellular connectivity across New York’s subway. Boldyn provides its network as a host for mobile carriers to use to provide connectivity.
“AT&T is proud to be the first to connect and go fully on-air between these major 4/5 lines and G line segments,” said John Emra, president, Northeast, AT&T. “Working closely with Boldyn Networks, we’re expanding reliable 5G connectivity underground and improving the rider experience in the nation’s largest transit system.”
It builds on AT&T’s launch of 5G services in the MTA’s Crosstown G train line segments back in November.
Boldyn is currently working with the MTA to expand its DAS cellular network to additional underground areas, including the 4/5/6 line segments north of 59th Street.
The company is currently carrying out a similar project in London for the Underground system with Transport for London (TfL). DCD covered this project in the latest issue of DCD>Magazine. Read more here.
