Finnish data center FCDC is planning a new campus in western-central Finland.
Vaasa this month announced that the city’s building and environment committee had approved a data center construction permit application for a plot located at Kuriiritie 7.
FDFC Corp Oy aims to develop a 66,000 sqm (710,420 sq ft) campus in GigaVaasa, located in the Laajametsä business area near the airport. Two data center buildings are planned.
Construction is planned to begin in 2026, with commissioning set to take place between 2028 and 2029.
“The data center project supports Vaasa’s goals to be a pioneer in the development of sustainable energy and digital infrastructure. The project will bring investments and jobs to the region, strengthening the position of the entire region as an internationally interesting and attractive technology hub,” said Frans Villanen, chairman of the Vaasa city council.
Vaasa, formerly known as Nikolaistad, is a city in Finland and the regional capital of Ostrobothnia. It is located on the west coast of the country, on the Gulf of Bothnia.
FCDC was founded a year and a half ago as Fincap DC Corp. According to Yle, Finnish real estate investment firm Fincap owns around a quarter of FCDC, having sold its majority stake in the company.
The company is also developing sites in Rovaniemi, a city in the north of Finland and the regional capital of Lapland. Verne is set to lease the site.
FCDC is also eyeing a site in Lahti, a city 100km (62.1 miles) north of Helsinki and the regional capital of Päijät-Häme.
3E Network to develop a 26MW AI data center in Finland
Chinese technology firm 3E Network is to develop a data center in Finland.
The company this week announced the execution of a Master Services Agreement, local form, with Orka Technologies Oy to jointly develop an AI data center project in Finland. The companies aim to launch with 6MW, rising by a minimum of 10MW over the coming years.
Details weren’t shared, but Orka last year leased a five-hectare plot of land in the city of Mikkeli in South Savo, located in the Finnish Lakeland.
Tingjun Yang, CEO of 3 E Network, said: “We selected Finland as our core European hub specifically to capitalize on its ideal ecosystem—combining one of Europe’s most stable power grids with cost-efficient green energy. We are confident this initiative will serve as a powerful new growth engine, driving sustainable revenue and supporting 3 E Network’s long-term profitability, while reinforcing our ability to meet the region’s escalating demand for reliable, sustainable AI computing resources.”
3E and Orka officially partnered for a Finnish data center project in May.
Most of Finland’s data centers are located in the country’s capital, Helsinki. Established operators, including the likes of Verne, Equinix, and atNorth, have a presence in Finland, while new operators such as Polarnode, FCDC, Arcem, and Hyperco are planning multiple developments across the country. International operators, including QTS, Pure, and DayOne, are also looking to develop in Finland.
