Nordic data center firm Verne has sold two data centers and its managed private cloud operations in Finland.
The company this week announced it has sold the Finnish operations, including facilities in Pori and Tampere, to Nordic cloud firm Glesys. Terms of the deal were not shared.
“We’re pleased to welcome a talented team and a strong customer base through this agreement with Verne. It expands our data center footprint in the region, enhances our ability to deliver scalable and sustainable infrastructure, and supports our ambition to grow cloud and colocation capabilities across the Nordic region. Finland is a key market for us, and we look forward to working with our new colleagues, customers, and partners to build a trusted platform for digital growth,” said Glenn Johansson, CEO, Glesys.
Verne operates three smaller data centers in Finland, located in Helsinki, Pori, and Tampere, which all came out of the 2022 acquisition of Ficolo. It also has a single location in London, UK, and a larger facility in Iceland.
The Pori bunker site, also known as the Rock, occupies ex-military tunnels in the bedrock and totals around 11MW across 8,500 sqm (91,500 sq ft). The Deck facility in Tampere offers up to 1MW across 400 sqm (4,300 sq ft).
Verne said the deal allows it to focus on its expansion plans in Mäntsälä, where the company is planning a 70MW site. It is also expanding its Helsinki campus.
“By bringing our Finland operations into alignment with our core business, we are also strengthening our go-to-market proposition. This transaction ensures that we are perfectly positioned to meet the rapidly increasing demand for AI-ready colocation data centers. This focused, strategic step reinforces our long-term vision and commitment to being the go-to partner for low-carbon, high-performance colocation infrastructure across the Nordics and beyond,” said Dominic Ward, CEO, Verne.
Verne was founded at an Icelandic data center firm. After being acquired by D9 in 2021, it was merged with Finnish data center firm Ficolo and London’s Volta Data Centres. The combined company was sold to investment firm Ardian last year as D9 was wound down.
Founded in 1999, Glesys offers infrastructure as a service offering, colocation, dedicated servers, network & connection, system management, and virtual private servers. The company was acquired by investment firm Cube Infrastructure Managers in 2023.
Glesys owns and operates three data centers in Falkenberg and Stockholm, Sweden, and Oulu in Finland. It also has partner facilities in Oslo, Norway, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and London, UK.
Last year, the firm acquired Moment Digital’s data center business in Finland, adding a facility in Tampere.
Torch Partners acted as exclusive financial adviser to Glesys, and EY-Parthenon to Verne, in the context of this transaction.
