CeLLife Technologies, a Tampere-based startup developing quality assurance technology for battery manufacturing, has secured new funding following its selection among the Top 10 winners of the European Startup Prize for Mobility. The company plans to use the funding to expand its deployment across European gigafactories, invest in technical development, and strengthen its integration with manufacturing lines. The funding comes as Europe seeks to reduce reliance on imported battery technology and improve local production standards.
CeLLife Technologies Ltd. is a deep tech company focused on battery diagnostics and quality control. Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from Tampere University, the company develops solutions based on more than a decade of academic research. Its core technology, known as Electrical Fingerprint (EFP™), is an AI-driven measurement method designed to detect cell-level defects in battery production processes. CeLLife’s tools are used by manufacturers and recyclers to improve quality assurance, minimize waste, and monitor battery health. Headquartered in Tampere, CeLLife operates at the intersection of battery innovation, industrial automation, and data-driven sustainability.
“Battery manufacturing is extremely complex, involving over 200 steps. A single bad cell is like a rotten apple in the basket — it can spoil the entire batch. We are ready to provide and launch production, but Europe needs equal production capabilities to lead the battery revolution,” says Roni Luhtala, Co-founder & CEO, CeLLife Technologies Ltd.
The European Startup Prize for Mobility (EUSP) was founded in 2017 by Karima Delli, Chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Transport & Tourism Committee, in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group and Via ID, with backing from the European Parliament and European Commission. The initiative is a public-private partnership that aims to identify and support European startups working on sustainable, resilient, and inclusive mobility solutions.
The EUSP competition attracted hundreds of applicants this year, with an international panel selecting the Top 10 startups based on criteria such as innovation, scalability, and potential impact on the future of mobility.
As part of the recognition, CeLLife will participate in an acceleration program providing mentoring, business development support, and opportunities to connect with European policymakers, industry leaders, and investors. The program is intended to help startups scale their solutions and expand their presence in European and international markets.
