German data center firm Firstcolo is to build a new data center outside Frankfurt.
The company this week announced plans to build a new data center in Rosbach vor der Höhe, some 30km north of Frankfurt.
The company, which currently operates two data centers in Frankfurt, aims to invest €250 million in developing a 24MW, 11,555 sqm (124,376 sq ft) facility. The company will make the waste heat available to any future local district heating networks. The greenfield site will offer densities up to 40kW.
The opening is planned for early 2027 and is part of a broader expansion strategy, with multiple new data centers scheduled across Germany by 2030. Further details weren’t shared.
“With this new data center, we are taking the next step towards state-of-the-art infrastructure with a total capacity of 24MW. As with all our locations, this facility will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy,” said Jerome Evans, founder and managing director of Firstcolo. “Our goal is to establish one of the most modern and energy-efficient data centers in Germany, with a strong focus on sustainability and efficiency.”
Founded in 2007, Firstcolo operates two data centers in Frankfurt. Its Werkaus facility has a capacity for more than 1,000 racks across 1,200 sqm (12,917 sq ft) of technical space, while its data center in the Accent Office Center has a capacity for more than 500 racks.
Mid-market infrastructure investor Cube Infrastructure Managers acquired the firm in 2022.
Cube’s previous digital infrastructure investments include Nordic data center firm Glesys, Spanish fiber to the home providers Asteo Red Neutra and Vento Rede, Italy’s Unifiber, Dutch fiber firm Rodin, Czechia’s Scancom, RuNe Croatia and Slovenia, dst telecomunicações in Portugal, Covage in France, European Sigfox provider Heliot, cable provider IslaLink, and Trooli and G.Network in the UK.
