Tallinn-based AI career platform Roleo has raised €2.9 million in a funding round led by Baltic venture capital firm Practica Capital, with participation from Nordic investor Inventure. Founded by Veriff co-founder Janer Gorohhov and former Wise engineer Vahur Hansen, Roleo develops a personal AI career agent that monitors job opportunities across Europe and connects technology professionals with relevant employers based on their experience, career goals and preferences, without requiring them to actively search or apply. The funding will support further development of the AI agent and the company’s expansion into European markets.
Roleo is an Estonian technology startup developing an AI-powered career platform for technology professionals. Its personal AI agent analyses users’ experience, skills, career goals and preferences to identify relevant job opportunities and connect them with potential employers. The platform is designed to support ongoing career management by monitoring the job market and matching candidates with suitable roles without requiring them to actively search or submit applications.
“Most people spend years building their careers, but only actively manage them when something goes wrong or they decide it is time for a change. Meanwhile, great opportunities come and go, often without the right people ever hearing about them,” said Janer Gorohhov, co-founder and CEO of Roleo. “We believe everyone should have a personal active career agent that understands what they want, keeps an eye on the market, and brings relevant opportunities to them. You should be able to focus on doing great work without missing out on what could come next.”
Traditional job platforms generally require candidates to search through vacancies, submit applications and compete in recruitment processes. Roleo takes a different approach by monitoring the job market on behalf of users, including those who are not actively looking to change jobs.
The platform learns about each user’s professional background, salary expectations, preferred responsibilities and working conditions. It then evaluates opportunities across the European technology sector and identifies roles that match individual profiles. When a suitable opportunity emerges, Roleo can connect the candidate directly with a hiring manager without requiring a formal application.
Users retain control over their visibility, personal information and whether they want to pursue an opportunity. The service is free for professionals, while employers gain access to candidates who may not otherwise be reached through conventional recruitment channels.
Since the beginning of 2026, Roleo says its AI agent has connected users with 30,000 career opportunities they subsequently explored further. The platform evaluates hundreds of thousands of potential opportunities each week, typically selecting three relevant matches for each user.
“AI is already changing how people handle everyday tasks, from managing information to organising their finances. Yet career management still requires people to do most of the work themselves,” Gorohhov said. “We want to build something that stays with you throughout your career, learns what matters to you, and helps you make better decisions over time. The goal isn’t to have AI make career decisions for people, but to make sure they have the right information and opportunities when those decisions matter.”
The €2.9 million round was led by Practica Capital, with Nordic VC Inventure also participating. Roleo has additionally attracted backing from technology entrepreneurs and investors, including Bolt founder Markus Villig, Sergei Anikin, Henrik Bohman, Kristina Lilleõis and Lemonade Stand.
The founders bring experience from two major European technology companies. Gorohhov previously co-founded identity verification company Veriff, while Hansen was part of Wise’s early engineering team and also co-founded startup Membo. Both founders are Y Combinator alumni.
The company has secured €3.46 million in total funding to date, according to its announcement.
“We saw potential in the Roleo founders – their proven operational experience and grounded, yet very high ambition. They came with a clear short-term plan and a long-term vision that’s easy to relate to. Leading this round was a natural fit for us, and we believe they are the team best positioned to set a new standard for how people build their careers,” said Donatas Keras, Partner at Practica Capital.
The new capital will be used to develop Roleo’s AI career agent and expand its service across European markets. The company also plans to extend the platform’s capabilities beyond job matching, aiming to support users throughout their professional lives.
Markus Villig, angel investor, founder and CEO of Bolt, added: “I’ve watched Janer build Veriff and I know what Vahur did at Wise. Both know first-hand how hard it is to find and hire great people across Europe.”
Roleo’s approach reflects a broader shift towards AI-powered recruitment tools, with the platform positioning its technology on the candidate side of the hiring process. Rather than focusing solely on helping employers screen applications, it aims to identify opportunities for professionals and facilitate connections with companies before candidates enter conventional recruitment processes.
Henrik Bohman, angel investor, ex-Wise: “I booked flights the moment I heard Janer and Vahur were working together. They’ve seen the hardships of hiring at Veriff and Wise, and YC has really taught them growth. Roleo has one of the strongest founding teams in European tech.”
The company plans to initially focus its European expansion on technology professionals and employers, drawing on the founders’ experience in building and scaling international technology businesses.
Kristina Lilleõis, angel investor, Chief People Officer at Hedosophia: “Having spent my career in people leadership, I’ve seen how much talent is missed because the best candidates aren’t actively applying, and how much time good companies waste sifting through noise. Roleo fixes both sides of that: it brings people roles they’d never have found on their own, and brings employers candidates they’d never have reached. The team is focused, practical and building something people genuinely need, which is why I was glad to back them.”
