AI data center orchestration firm Emerald AI has released results from its latest pilot with Nvidia and Nscale at the latter’s data center in Iceland.

The companies released the pilot results during Nvidia’s GTC event in Berlin this week. According to the companies, during the pilot, Emerald AI’s Emerald Conductor platform, working in unison with Nvidia’s DSX power-management technology, was able to reduce the power use of the AI server racks at the data center by approximately 25 percent and held the reduction for 30 minutes before returning to normal operations.

The test marked the first time the Emerald Conductor system was fully integrated with Nvidia’s DSX technology, designed to help AI data centers get as much compute as possible out of every watt of energy.

“Access to power has become the main constraint on Europe’s AI build-out, and the fastest way to relieve it is to make AI factories flexible enough to use the grid capacity that already exists, which also keeps energy affordable for local communities,” said Varun Sivaram, founder and CEO of Emerald AI. “This pilot shows that AI computing can reduce its power use on request, which is what utilities need to see before they can connect AI factories faster.”

The test is the seventh undertaken by Emerald AI. These include three in the US, in Santa Clara, Phoenix, and Chicago, and one in the UK, in partnership with the National Grid.

The Emerald Conductor program works by serving as a mediator between the grid and data centers, orchestrating AI workloads in real time. This enables data centers to dynamically adjust their energy consumption, supporting grid stability while ensuring acceptable AI compute performance.

The company announced its first commercial project in October, with the orchestration software set to be deployed at Nvidia’s under-construction 96MW Aurora data center in Manassas, Virginia.

In August, the firm announced that it had raised a further $150 million in Series A funding, building on three other funding rounds. In February, the firm raised $25m in seed extension funding. The extension followed a $24.5m raise last July, which was boosted by $18m in October.

The company is a member of the Nvidia Inception program for startups and is also backed by Google’s chief sustainability officer, Kate Brandt.
