Copenhagen-based startup Plinto has raised €2.9 million in pre-seed funding from People Ventures, Emblem and a group of business angels to develop its AI-powered financial controlling platform. Founded in 2025, the company builds AI agents that integrate with businesses’ existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, documents, banking tools and communication platforms to check invoices, orders and payments against contracts, budgets and internal policies. When discrepancies are detected, the agents investigate the underlying evidence and help coordinate corrective actions. The funding will support product development, expansion among enterprise customers and the company’s first steps into markets outside Denmark.
Plinto develops AI agents for automated financial controlling. Its platform connects with existing business systems to check invoices, orders and payments against contracts, budgets and internal policies. When it identifies discrepancies, the agents investigate the relevant information and help coordinate follow-up actions, including supplier queries, credit note requests and transaction corrections requiring approval. Founded in 2025, the company serves businesses in sectors including logistics, real estate, facility services and food production.
“Companies have systems that record every single transaction, but checking whether those transactions actually match agreements and rules is still largely manual. We’re building AI agents that find deviations, investigate them and take action, so errors get fixed,” says Jakob Nielsen, cofounder of Plinto.
Financial teams at larger companies process substantial volumes of invoices, orders and payments, making it difficult to verify every transaction manually. While accounting systems record financial activity, checking whether each transaction matches the relevant contract, agreed price or internal policy often requires information from multiple sources. As a result, businesses may rely on spot checks or conduct reviews at the end of the month. Errors such as incorrect prices and duplicate invoices can go unnoticed until after payments have been made.
Plinto aims to automate these checks by placing AI agents on top of the systems companies already use. The platform compares transactions with contracts, budgets and internal rules, then investigates discrepancies and gathers supporting evidence. Depending on the issue, the agents can follow up with employees or suppliers, request credit notes or prepare corrections for approval.
“Many of our customers work with low margins, so even small errors can quickly add up. The problem is that they’re often only discovered after the money has been paid. We want companies to catch and fix errors before they hit the bottom line,” says Nermina Suljevic, co-founder and CEO of Plinto.
The company reports that its agents identified around 430 discrepancies per month in one part of a customer’s business. In another case, the platform detected a duplicate invoice submitted under a slightly different supplier name within a minute of its arrival, before the invoice could be paid twice. Plinto has paying customers and pilot projects across logistics, real estate, facility services and food production, sectors where relatively small errors can affect already tight operating margins.
The €2.9 million round, equivalent to approximately DKK 21.6 million, was led by People Ventures and Emblem, with additional participation from business angels. Plinto plans to use the capital to accelerate product development, onboard more enterprise customers and begin expanding beyond Denmark. The company is targeting businesses that need to verify large volumes of transactions but cannot feasibly check each one through manual processes.
The startup was founded in early 2025 by Jakob Nielsen, Nermina Suljevic and Sebastian Rehnby. The founders previously worked at Peakon, the employee experience software company acquired by Workday in 2021. Plinto CTO Andreas Garnæs also previously worked at Peakon. The team brings experience in product development, engineering and commercial operations, which it is now applying to the automation of financial controls.
Rather than replacing the accounting and enterprise systems businesses already rely on, Plinto’s platform is designed to operate across them, connecting transaction data with the agreements and policies used to verify it. The company’s approach focuses on identifying and addressing discrepancies as they arise, rather than relying solely on periodic financial reviews.
