European operator NorthC has started work on a new data center in Frankfurt, Germany.
“A new chapter begins for NorthC Datacenters Deutschland on Mainzer Landstraße: The preparatory construction work for our new FRA01 data center has begun,” the company said on LinkedIn this week.
The facility will be located at Mainzer Landstraße 695 in the west of Frankfurt and total 6MW. The first phase is due live in January 2028.
NorthC said it had three facilities in development around Frankfurt, alongside its operational Frankfurt 3 facility, which was acquired from Colt.
Frankfurt 2 is due to be located at Dornhofstraße 14 in Neu-Isenburg, some 8km (5 miles) south of Frankfurt. Currently housing industrial warehouse space, NorthC acquired the site from family office Lugman Capital earlier this year and plans a 4.5MW data center there.
NorthC was formed in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, originally a subsidiary of Dutch telecoms company KPN. Antin Infrastructure Partners acquired the company in December 2025.
After entering Germany via the acquisition of IP Exchange in Germany in 2022, NorthC first announced plans to develop a 5MW data center in Frankfurt in January 2024. The company announced plans for a second in the city in December 2024 that would offer 1.5MW at launch and 10.5MW at full build-out.
The 900kW Frankfurt 3, located at Rüsselsheimer Straße 22, is a former CenturyLink/Lumen site NorthC took over when it acquired a number of European facilities from Colt last year. Colt acquired Lumen’s EMEA operations in 2023.
Across Germany, NorthC operates facilities in Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Munich.
