Bull has been awarded a €31 million ($36m) contract with the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) to deliver supercomputing infrastructure, comprising hardware, software and 24/7 monitoring services.

The contract will run for four years, with the supercomputer set to support faster and more accurate weather, climate and environmental forecasting services in Spain.

Hosted at two different sites in Madrid, the infrastructure will provide a performance increase of ten percent, enabling the “optimization of existing applications,” while opening up the environment to “new AI-based applications that will greatly improve weather forecasting and climate change analysis,” Bull said in a statement.

“The commissioning of this new high-performance computing infrastructure represents a strategic milestone for AEMET. It will significantly enhance our meteorological and climate forecasting capabilities, foster the application of artificial intelligence, and strengthen the continuity of essential services that are critical to public safety and societal support,” said Alicia López Rejas, executive director at AEMET. “The collaboration with Bull is key to making this infrastructure a reality, positioning the agency at the forefront of technological innovation among European meteorological services.”

The contract award comes five months after the French state completed its acquisition of Bull, the artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), and quantum subsidiary of Atos, following the signing of a €404m ($469m) share purchase agreement between Atos and the French State on July 31, 2025.

Its BullSequana HPC systems form the basis for a number of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, with its X series architecture supporting exascale-class systems, including Europe’s first exascale system, the Jupiter Booster.

In April 2026, Bull revealed it had secured a €30 million ($35m) five-year contract to provide AI-optimized infrastructure at Sweden’s Mimer AI factory, also based on Bull’s BullSequana XH3500 architecture.

Earlier this month, Bull was selected by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and the Lumi AI factory consortium to deliver the Lumi-AI supercomputer, to be hosted at the CSC data center in Kajaani, Finland.
