German engine manufacturer Everllence, which traditionally serves the maritime sector, has signed a supply deal with an unnamed data center developer in the US to deliver 480MW of gas engine capacity.

According to the company, it will supply the data center developer with 24 of its 18V51/60G gas engines, which it claims will power the data center behind the meter.

“This contract is one of our most important off-grid data center projects in the United States and strengthens our position in a rapidly evolving digital infrastructure sector. In a market traditionally dominated by gas turbines, our medium-speed engines offer a valuable alternative that is ideal for data centers without direct grid access. They deliver stable power quality, ensure maximum reliability, and can respond quickly to load changes,” Johann Stocks, head of Power, Americas at Everllence, said.

Engine delivery is scheduled in two phases, which will commence deployment mid-2026 in line with the commissioning of the data center.

The Everllence 18V51/60G is an 18-cylinder, four-stroke gas engine with a capacity of 24MW. The company claims that it can run on natural gas, hydrogen, and biofuels. It has already deployed 124MW across six units in partnership with Kerrville Public Utility Board to stabilize local power.

Everllence is headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, and specializes in propulsion, power generation, and low-carbon technologies such as heat pumps and carbon capture. In 2026, Bain Capital acquired a majority stake in the company from the Volkswagen Group, which retained a minority stake in the firm.

The company is increasingly targeting the data center market as a growing offtaker for its engine portfolio. Last month, it launched a new backup generator set for the data center market. The 175D high-speed engine supplies 2.4MWe of standby power and is expressly designed with the data center in mind, the company said.
