Fiber-optic provider M-net has announced the construction of a new data center outside of Munich, southern Germany.
The colocation facility will occupy 16,145 sq ft (1,500 sqm) and is expected to open in 2028.
No information was released about its likely compute power or the estimated cost of construction. DCD has approached M-net for comment.
“With our new data center, we are creating a state-of-the-art, high-performance infrastructure that meets the increasing demands for availability, security, and scalability,” said Maximilian Oertle, M-net’s technical managing director, in a statement. “In particular, the redundant design of all critical systems and the direct fiber optic connection lay the foundation for the reliable operation of even the most demanding digital applications.”
M-net’s new data center will be designed according to the European Union’s EN 50600 standard for such facilities. It will be equipped with an 800 GbE Internet connection, redundant cooling and power systems, an uninterruptible power supply, and an emergency power backup.
Main power to the data center will be provided through renewable energy contracts, ensuring that the facility operates at PUE levels of 1.2 or less. The interior of the data center will also feature biometric security systems, video surveillance, and 24/7 monitoring by M-net’s network operations center.
Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Munich, M-net provides high-speed Internet, mobile and landline connections to an estimated 510,000 business and residential customers in the German states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Hesse.
The fiber-optic provider already operates two data centers in Munich and one in Nuremberg, according to DataCenterMap.
Bavaria is currently Germany’s second-largest data center market, with 40 facilities in the state, according to DataCenters.com.
