Helsinki-based Aiven has acquired fellow Finnish startup Flow AI, a developer of infrastructure for production-grade analytical AI agents, in a move aimed at bringing AI agents closer to production data and accelerating its AI platform roadmap. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Aiven provides a managed open-source cloud data platform that helps organizations run data services across multiple cloud providers, while Flow AI develops the runtime, data layer, and evaluation tools that enable SaaS companies to embed reliable AI agents into their products. Backed by Project A, Lifeline Ventures, and Seedcamp, Flow AI will integrate its technology into Aiven’s platform, enabling customers to build, deploy, and operate AI applications with secure access to governed production data at scale. The acquisition, Aiven’s third to date, follows the company’s continued expansion of its AI infrastructure offering after surpassing a $100 million annual revenue run rate in 2025.

Aiven is a Helsinki-based cloud data platform company that provides managed open-source data services across major cloud providers. Its platform supports technologies including Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, OpenSearch, Valkey, and DataHub, enabling organizations to build and operate data-intensive applications and AI workloads without managing the underlying infrastructure.

Flow AI is a Finnish AI infrastructure startup that develops technology for production-grade analytical AI agents. The company provides runtime, data layer, and evaluation tools that help SaaS companies integrate AI agents capable of interacting reliably and securely with structured production data. Before focusing on AI infrastructure, the founding team built Flowrite, an AI-powered writing assistant.

Aiven acquired Flow AI because the interface to data is changing. Agents are becoming the new medium for businesses to interact with their data, and this shift demands infrastructure to build reliable agents that run alongside production data. By bringing Flow AI’s agent infrastructure together with Aiven’s managed open-source data platform, Aiven is removing the complexity that typically stalls AI projects, allowing customers to deploy agents with the confidence and scalability they already rely on for their data.

“Agents are only as good as the infrastructure serving them–the freshness of the data, the reliability of the context, and the quality of evaluations they are exposed to. The Flow AI team brings deep, hard-won expertise in building reliable agent infrastructure. We are building towards a unified platform that brings together agent-native tooling and production data, so customers can confidently run AI workloads in production. We are delighted to welcome Flow AI to Aiven,” said Oskari Saarenmaa, CEO and Co-Founder of Aiven.

The team behind Flow AI has been developing production AI systems since 2020. Their first product, Flowrite, was one of the earliest and most widely adopted AI productivity tools with hundreds of thousands of users. The Flow AI team then turned their attention to harder infrastructure problems like how to make AI agents act safely and reliably over structured data at scale. Today, Flow AI builds infrastructure for production-grade analytical agents, providing the runtime, data layer, and evaluation tools that enable SaaS teams to embed reliable, customer-facing AI agents directly into their products.

“We’ve spent years making AI work on real data and were involved in the evolution from the earliest LLMs to today’s agentic systems. Aiven has spent a decade building data infrastructure the right way, open, portable and developer-centric. Bringing our harness, evaluation and context work onto that foundation lets us ship agents to far more teams than we could reach alone. I’m convinced Aiven can become a generational AI infrastructure company, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of it,” said Aaro Isosaari, CEO and Co-Founder of Flow AI.

This news follows a strong period of growth and product releases at Aiven. Since surpassing $100M run rate in 2025 Aiven has released Inkless, open source implementation that decouples compute and storage for Kafka, managed context layer Aiven for Datahub and Aiven Apps in early availability. This acquisition is the third acquisition in Aiven’s history.
