Transformer manufacturer DG Matrix has teamed up with Estonian power systems supplier Skeleton Technologies to support the data center sector’s transition to 800V DC power infrastructure.
The tie-up will see Skeleton integrate its fast-response energy storage systems across DG Matrix’s Interport multi-port solid-state transformer (SST) platform. According to the companies, the integration will mitigate GPU pulse loads directly in the white space, which they claim is one of the biggest challenges in modern AI data centers, as they often exceed the response capabilities of the power grid and conventional UPS and battery systems.
“The shift to 800V DC power architecture represents one of the most important evolutions in the data center industry. As power demands for AI workloads become even greater, fast-acting energy storage is essential to ensuring that GPU bursts don’t destabilize electric grids. Working with DG Matrix gives us the opportunity to demonstrate how our high-power energy storage technologies complement solid-state transformer architectures and support more resilient, efficient data center infrastructure,” said Taavi Madiberk, CEO and co-founder of Skeleton Technologies.
Both companies have positioned themselves at the forefront of AI data center growth. The company is a developer of graphene-based supercapacitors for the utility and AI data center markets. Skeleton’s system is a high-power energy-storage device designed to handle sharp load fluctuations in grids and AI data centers in under a millisecond. The company claims that its systems enable AI data centers to smooth power demand and reduce energy consumption.
It also recently launched a new UPS for AI data centers, which it claims delivers continuous power protection for data center operators while complying with grid connection requirements.
DG Matrix’s Interport system is a multi-port solid-state transformer, which it argues simplifies the integration of diverse power sources and loads. The company’s standardized platform is designed to enable faster deployment and lower energy costs compared to conventional transformer-based architectures, while supporting flexible configurations of renewables, battery storage, and utility grid connections.
DG Matrix has also partnered with PowerSecure, a Southern Company subsidiary, to accelerate the deployment of next-generation power infrastructure for AI data centers and large-scale electrification projects.
