European sovereign cloud platform Yorizon Cloud has announced the deployment of a ground-mounted solar array at its Yexio data center in Heiligenhaus, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The solar array was constructed and installed by Essen-based construction group Hochtief, via its subsidiary Hochtief Solarpartner. According to the company, the plant generates 220MWh of solar power every year, which is used directly to power the data center site.
Yorizon launched the data center last year and has a capacity of 2MW, with the ability to expand to 4MW. It is located at the Heiligenhaus Innovation Park. According to previous reports, the data center utilizes “direct water cooling” and was built predominantly out of wood in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the building.
Yexio was launched in 2024 as a joint venture between Hochtief PPP Solutions and Thomas-Krenn. In addition to its Heiligenhaus data center, the company has two other facilities under development to support its Germany West cloud region.
Most recently, it broke ground at its data center in Herne, North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the company, it expects to complete its Germany West cloud region in 2027, which will also include the Heiligenhaus and Bad Lippspringe data centers.
The company also has a data center under development in Bavaria.
