A former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) data center in the UK has been demolished and is set to make way for an industrial warehouse development.
Hobden Estates (Kegworth) Limited was granted permission to demolish the former RBS Computer Centre at Packington Hill in Kegworth in 2024.
Hobden Estates then filed with North West Leicestershire District Council to develop a Class E commercial building with offices and parking.
The site is in Leicestershire, six miles northwest of Loughborough and 12 miles southwest of Nottingham.
The council is due to make a decision on the proposals this week, with planning officers recommending that the development go ahead. Hundreds of letters of objection from residents have been submitted to the council, and Kegworth Parish Council is also opposed to the project.
Dating back to the mid-1970s and spanning 9,385 sqm (101,020 sq ft) on a 4.1-hectare plot, the site originally held IBM mainframe systems for Natwest, which was acquired by RBS in 2020. In operation for more than 30 years, the bank exited and sold the site in 2021, and the former single-story facility has now been removed.
Cushman & Wakefield is marketing the future Packington Hill warehouse to potential customers. The warehouse would total 161,500 sq ft (15,000 sqm).
Founded in the early 1980s, the Hobden Group is a privately-owned real estate group focused on property development in the healthcare, housing, education, logistics and land sectors in England, Scotland and Wales.
Another RBS data center, located in Stafford, was demolished around 2022.
