Estate agents, conveyancers and brokers unite in bid to ‘fix’ broken homebuying process

A group of Welsh estate agents, conveyancers and mortgage brokers has launched a new initiative aimed at improving communication and coordination throughout the home-moving process.

The launch of Move Wales comes as the UK government prepares to publish plans to reform the homebuying and selling system, which ministers have described as slow and inefficient. According to TwentyCi data, failed property transactions across England and Wales cost an estimated £1bn in 2024, while the average transaction took around five months to progress from listing to completion.

Move Wales brings together property professionals from across Wales with the aim of improving information sharing between agents, conveyancers and mortgage advisers during transactions.

The initiative is backed by FinTech Wales, PEXA, the Open Property Data Association (OPDA) and Legal News Wales, and is powered by Cardiff-based proptech firm openmoove.

Among the first organisations to join as founding members are Harding Evans Solicitors, Carbon Law Partners and Wrights Estate Agency. Further firms are expected to sign up before the founding member deadline on 26 June.

The group says its focus is on improving collaboration between the different parties involved in a property transaction in an effort to reduce delays and improve the experience for buyers and sellers.

Ross McKenzie, co-founder of openmoove, said: “Wales has the same broken system as everywhere else. The difference is that a group of Welsh professionals have decided not to accept it. Move Wales is what happens when the people closest to the problem stop waiting for someone else to fix it.”

Jack Wright, director of Wrights Estate Agency, added: “Fall-throughs are painful for everyone involved, but it’s home movers who bear the real cost. This initiative is doing something about it, and we wanted Wrights to be part of that from day one.”

Move Wales will host its first Summer Social on Wednesday 8 July 2026, bringing together Welsh estate agents, conveyancers and mortgage brokers for an informal evening at Fitz & Knox, Cardiff. Details and registration at move.wales.

Founding members can access the openmoove platform, which is designed to connect the parties involved in a property transaction. Use of the platform is optional, and there are no subscription fees. A fee of £25 plus VAT is payable only when a transaction completes through the platform. This rate is available to Welsh firms joining Move Wales.

The deadline to join as a founding member is 26 June 2026. Firms that join before this date will be recognised as founding members, while organisations joining afterwards will still be able to participate in the initiative.
