French AI cloud startup Policloud has secured a €580 million ($672.44m) framework contract from CloudGrid Energy to deploy a European sovereign AI platform.
Shared by Policloud on LinkedIn, the contract will span 280 “Policloud units,” totaling 29,000 GPUs, two million CPUs, and 35MW of compute capacity.
Policloud units are modular, containerized, and waterless-cooled micro data center solutions, and can each house up to 400 GPUs per unit, spanning up to 100 sqm (1,080 sq ft) and 500kW of power capacity.
The agreement with CloudGrid Energy will see Policloud deploying these units at 16 sites that have been secured across France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden, all of which will be deployed by the end of 2027. According to Policloud, the first unit in Bonne Voisine, France, is already operational.
Policloud CEO David Gurle said in his own post on LinkedIn that the deployment will be at “renewable power farms.”
“Through its Policloud entity, Antimatter is weaving the sovereign cloud infrastructure for HPC that is frugal and responsible. Our distributed computing infrastructure provided by Hivenet is second to none, enabling the native resilience of storage and compute workloads across the network of hundreds of Policlouds. Our objective was 100 Policlouds by the end of 2027; with this deal and others to announce in the coming days, weeks, and months, we have well passed this goal, heading towards the 1000 Policlouds objective slated by the end of 2030 much earlier. This is incredible…! Pinching myself…”
Antimatter is also founded by Gurle, and is described as a neocloud platform focusing on AI.
Policloud was founded in 2025 by Gurle, a former Microsoft executive and founder of Symphony, and raised €7.5m ($8.8m) in its seed funding round, led by Global Ventures and with participation from MI8 Limited, OneRagtime, Inria, France’s National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology, and other private investors. The company previously said that by the end of 2026, it was targeting 100 systems with more than 25,000 GPUs.
CloudGrid Energy deploys compute at renewable energy sites, aiming to colocate HPC infrastructure “directly into the partner’s asset.” The company was founded by Thierry Renard and Eric Reisse.
