Propertymark has confirmed that Sir Mel Stride, shadow chancellor of the Exchequer, will speak at its Propertymark One conference on 12 June 2026 at ExCeL London.
He will join other speakers, including former housing secretary Angela Rayner, to address issues affecting the UK housing market.
Sir Mel is expected to outline his views on housing market reform, including proposals related to Stamp Duty on primary residences, which he has previously criticised as a barrier to movement in the housing market.
His session will focus on the impact of transaction taxes on affordability, mobility and wider economic activity.
Propertymark said the conference will bring together delegates from across the property sector to discuss policy and market conditions affecting housing supply and demand.
Jason Lee, commercial manager at Propertymark, commented: “Hosting Sir Mel Stride at the Propertymark One Conference provides attendees with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with a leading political figure on a policy area that has profound implications for the housing market. Stamp Duty continues to influence behaviour at every stage of the property lifecycle, and any proposal to reform or abolish it warrants serious consideration from industry professionals.
“Our conference is about bringing together insight, expertise and forward-thinking debate. Sir Mel’s contribution will add a significant political and economic dimension to discussions around how we create a more fluid, accessible and efficient housing market.”
