A 600MW data center could be built on a 200-acre land parcel near Aberdeen, Scotland, according to a report by The Press and Journal. 

Developer Ashfield Land acquired a 64-acre land parcel east of the A90 trunk road and on the junction of the Western Peripheral Route back in 2015, and the company intends to combine this parcel with other land. 

Data center company TechRE is also involved with the project. 

Ashfield Land bought the 64-acre land parcel in order to build “a large-scale mixed-use scheme including business space (office and industrial), retail and leisure,” according to the company’s press release in 2015.

Although the Aberdeenshire Council decided in 2017 that this 64-acre land parcel would be suitable for business and industrial uses, effectively making it suitable for the construction of a data center, details about the planning permission of the remaining 136 acres are unknown.

The Press and Journal has also reported that energy for the project could come from the Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm.

Details about construction timelines are unavailable.

Most of Scotland’s data centers are located around Edinburgh and Glasgow. Aberdeen, located in the country’s north, is home to data centers operated by IFB.
