French telco Orange and infrastructure developer Camusat have signed an agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the telco value chain.
The partnership will focus on cutting CO2 emissions tied to Camusat’s products and services, with a specific focus on energy use, sustainable materials, and logistics efficiency.
“With the signing of this contract, Camusat is pursuing its GHG reduction objectives while helping ambitious companies like Orange to reduce their carbon footprint,” said Elodie Perrigot, director of ESG HSE E&S Ethics at Camusat Group. “Our solutions, such as low-carbon energy infrastructures, are a strategic lever for meeting the growing demand for clean, renewable energy in telecommunications.”
The partnership also aims to support Orange’s broader goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040. Camusat, whose climate goals have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, will provide detailed data on the carbon footprint of its infrastructure solutions. Orange will subsequently use the data to improve its emission tracking especially concerning scope 3 emissions, which account for 80 percent of the company’s total emission profile.
“Orange is firmly committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2040. This partnership with Camusat illustrates our desire to work hand in hand with our suppliers to accelerate the energy transition and reduce our collective carbon footprint”, said Elizabeth Tchoungui, executive director, Corporate Social Responsibility at Orange Group.
The partnership is part of Orange’s broader “Partners to Net Zero Carbon” initiative, which aims to implement measurable, effective solutions for cutting emissions.
The agreement between the two companies will build on previous collaborations across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
Orange has undertaken a range of initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, including signing several Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for renewable energy capacity. Earlier this year, the telco’s Romanian subsidiary signed a ten year virtual PPA with Engie for 40GWh of energy per year.
Camusat is a French telco infrastructure and network developer headquartered in Paris. In 2017, it launched a dedicated sustainable focused division called Akivco, which has pioneered Energy as a Service and Tower & Energy as a Service models in Africa. Since 2016, the company has been majority owned by Equistone, a European private equity firm.
