Amsterdam-based Framer, a professional no-code website builder for designers, announced on Thursday that it has raised $27M (approximately €25.5M) in a Series C round of funding.
The funding round was led by Meritech Capital, with participation from existing investors, including Accel and Atomico.
The latest capital infusion will enable the Dutch company to scale its product and commercial teams in Europe and the US.
“Web design has always been a two-step process: design and then build, which is inefficient and time-consuming. We’ve changed that,” explains Koen Bok, co-founder of Framer.
“With Framer, you design, and we handle the rest – from optimization for search engines to worldwide hosting. It’s a game-changer for large businesses and designers alike,” adds Bok.
The announcement comes almost five years after raising €21M in a Series B funding round led by Atomico.
Framer: Redefining the Future of Web Design
Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk, who are experienced entrepreneurs and previously sold their company to Facebook, established Framer in 2015 as a prototyping tool for product designers.
However, the platform has now expanded its services to address a more significant issue in professional web design, which is the disconnect between design and build.
The Dutch company has established itself as a crucial tool for startups, scaleups, freelancers, agencies, and enterprise teams by integrating design and web building into a seamless process.
The platform’s innovative approach allows users to design and deploy responsive, high-performance websites within a single platform, eliminating the need to use a separate design tool, saving users significant time and effort.
Furthermore, the platform boasts a minimal learning curve, particularly for those familiar with Figma.
“The beauty of Framer is that it feels natural to designers accustomed to tools like Figma, but the output is industry-leading,” adds Framer co-founder van Dijk.
Since its launch in May of last year, Framer Sites, the company’s professional no-code website platform, has seen impressive adoption rates with growth accelerating at over 20 per cent per month.
Currently, various startups and tech companies such as messagebird.com, twingate.com, and superhuman.com, use the platform as their preferred platform.
The Investor
Meritech Capital Partners is a US-based venture firm that specializes in late-stage investments in IT companies, particularly those in the consumer internet and media sectors.
“We get excited about companies that are creating paradigm shifts in their end markets. Unlike the status quo, Framer enables design and marketing teams to own the entire lifecycle of web design and hosting, all in a collaborative way. Moreover, the passionate and growing Framer community that has been built in a short period is a testament to the vision, team, and product. It’s also unique to find a company led by founders like Koen and Jorn who have deep domain expertise and have lived the problems Framer is solving firsthand. We’re thrilled to partner with Koen, Jorn, and the rest of the Framer team on their mission of defining the future of web design,” says Alex Clayton, Meritech
