Goodman, a global specialist in industrial properties and primary infrastructure provider for the digital economy, is developing the Pioltello Logistics Center in Pioltello (Milan): a new facility for the e-commerce leader Amazon (see here the press release).

Construction of the new 8,000 sq m logistics center began at the end of February, and its completion is estimated for September 2021. The Pioltello Logistics Center is part of Goodman’s global strategy to meet the growing demand for logistics space in strategic locations. with easy access to large consumer markets. Its privileged location, on the outskirts of Milan, will allow deliveries to 2.5 million people in about 30 minutes.

In fact, the property will be equipped with cutting-edge features such as 256 electric charging stations for cars, trucks and vans, to facilitate and encourage increasingly greener deliveries. Furthermore, the photovoltaic system on the roof will produce about 160 kWp which will be used to offset the energy needs of the building: this is the equivalent of planting more than 10,000 trees, which absorb about 100 tons of CO2 in one year of life. . Thanks to these peculiarities, the structure aims to obtain the BREEAM type Excellent certification. The company’s sustainable and environmentally friendly approach will involve not only the logistics center, but also the area surrounding it: to bring greater well-being to the local community, as well as to Goodman customers, in fact, a green park of almost 4,000 square meters. Furthermore, the Amazon operators in the Pioltello Logistics Center will also benefit from excellent transport links, to better serve the eastern area of Milan.

Stefano Fierro, Country Manager Goodman in Italy, commented on this new project: “Pioltello Logistics Centre will see us continue to deliver our global strategy of investing in sought-after locations close to large consumer populations. The project is also an excellent example of our commitment to sustainability and achieving carbon neutrality. Thanks to the co-operation with the municipality of Pioltello and the local authorities, almost six hectares of land will be transferred to the municipality for the development of a new sporting centre.”

“The Goodman Logistics property was designed to be avant-garde and meet the highest international standards of environmental and energy sustainability, as was immediately requested and agreed with the municipal administration,” the town councillor and deputy mayor of Pioltello Saimon Gaiotto said, adding: “We are also pleased that this building will be fully set for the deployment of electrical fleet in the coming years. The project is located in an area that was zoned before 2010, and its location ensures minimal impact on the local road network. For the city hall, it was important to reduce the effects of the new activity on traffic in the area, thing that Goodman naturally paid a strong attention to. Finally, the urban planning operation will make it possible to acquire 63,000 square metres of land between the swimming pool and the party area for the future Pioltello sports centre: the environment and the quality of life of citizens remain priorities for this Administration”.

So far, Goodman has provided Amazon with more than one million square meters (equal to 200 football fields) of bespoke logistics space throughout Europe since 2006. All properties are leased to Amazon and operated by Goodman. Recall that Amazon

With assets worth 31.6 billion euros and 369 properties under management, Goodman is Australia’s largest listed industrial real estate group and one of the world’s largest listed specialist fund managers. It has over 900 employees and 26 offices in 13 countries. In Europe, Goodman is present in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Italy (in Milan) and the United Kingdom. The company has 3.7 million square meters of assets managed in Europe.
