Private equity groups including Apax Partners, Bain Capital and maybe CVC Capital too are planning a 7 billion euros bid for Portugal Telecom from Brazilian telecommunications company Groupo Oi sa which is competitive with the one multibillionaire Patrick Drahi made few days ago through its tlc group Altice (see here an article by Bloomberg). And the news is that the funds are trying to involve Telecom Italia too in the deal, Il Sole 24 Ore wrote yesterday,
This is an idea that makes it more complicated the altraedy complicated scenario of tlc sector in Brazil, where Tim Brasil itself, which is the Brazilian Telecom Italia’s subsidiary, is one of the starring actors.
Actually Telecom in the last months has been thinking of making an offer both for the whole Oi or just for some OI0s assets, while OI has been thinking to buy Tim Brasil. In the meantime OI wants to sell Portugal Telecom in order to lower its huge debt. But America Movil and Telefonica Brasil too have been thinking of buying Tim Participações, TIm Brasil’s hoilding (see an article by Reuters),
Finally two days ago during a conference call with financial analyst about Q3 figures for the company, Tim Brasil’s ceo , Rodrigo Abreu, said that while” the company is focusing on its three year industrial plan this does not mean that we are excluding to look for strategic opportunities”.
