Microsoft has signed two corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with Irish power generation firm Energia for energy from two onshore wind farms in Ireland.

According to the Irish Independent, the power will be delivered from the 25MW Ballylongford Wind Farm in County Clare and the 25MW Crossmore Wind Farm in County Kerry.

The Ballylongford project is scheduled for completion in mid-2026. The Crossmore Wind Farm recently saw the installation of its last turbine and is expected to reach commercial operations later this year.

Details on the capacity and length of the PPA were not shared. DCD has contacted both companies for further information.

The two PPAs follow one signed in November 2022 between the two companies.

New York-based I-Squared owns Energia. It currently has 50MW of onshore wind under construction and 302MW in the pipeline for development. The company also has 574MW of fully consented solar capacity and a further pipeline of 570MW.

Energia also owns and operates two gas-fired power plants in Huntstown, Dublin.

The company was put up for sale in early 2024, with a valuation of around €2 billion ($2.17bn).

Microsoft has signed several PPAs to support its Irish operations. Most recently, in May of last year, it signed a PPA with SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland for 30MW of power from the 30MW Lenalea Wind Farm near Letterkenny, County Donegal.

Microsoft has more than a dozen data centers in operation or development at multiple sites around Dublin. It also plans to develop a campus southwest of Dublin in Naas, County Kildare.
