Copenhagen-based energy technology startup Lumilab has raised a pre-seed funding round led by Giant Ventures, with participation from GANNI founder Nicolaj Reffstrup, former Danish minister and entrepreneur Tommy Ahlers, and former NVIDIA Senior Director Thomas Skov Reunert. Spun out of research at the University of Copenhagen, Lumilab develops an AI-powered operations platform that connects fragmented data and software systems to monitor energy infrastructure, identify faults and automate operational workflows through AI agents. The funding will be used to expand the team and scale deployments across global energy infrastructure.
Lumilab develops AI agents to automate operational tasks across energy infrastructure, including electric vehicle charging networks, solar installations and battery parks. Its platform connects operational workflows and enables AI agents to identify events and execute predefined actions, while human operations teams configure agents, set rules and oversee processes. Spun out of research at the University of Copenhagen, the company focuses on helping energy infrastructure operators manage distributed assets and reduce manual work.
“We’re building applied intelligence for the infrastructure that powers society. Our AI agents reason through problems and take action across operational systems. Our ambition is to help every energy operator run and scale the infrastructure society depends on,” says Sofus Laub Erdal, CEO.
As electric vehicle charging networks, solar installations and battery storage systems expand, operators face growing demands to monitor and maintain assets across multiple locations. However, operational data and workflows are often spread across separate software systems, leaving teams to investigate error logs, identify problems and coordinate responses manually.
Lumilab aims to address these challenges with a shared operations layer that connects data and workflows across energy infrastructure. Its AI agents can monitor assets, detect and investigate issues, and execute actions across connected systems. Human operations teams remain responsible for configuring the agents, establishing rules and designing workflows, while the agents handle assigned tasks.
The company reports that its platform has expanded over the past 12 months to support operations across 45,000 assets in more than 30 countries, including Denmark, Germany, the UK and France. The assets include electric vehicle chargers, payment terminals, depot equipment and battery systems.
By automating parts of day-to-day operations, Lumilab aims to help infrastructure operators improve asset reliability and efficiency while reducing the manual work required to manage increasingly distributed energy systems.
The pre-seed round was led by Giant Ventures, with additional backing from Nicolaj Reffstrup, founder of Danish fashion brand GANNI; Tommy Ahlers, a former Danish minister and entrepreneur; and Thomas Skov Reunert, formerly a senior director at NVIDIA.
“Energy sovereignty depends on reliable, efficient infrastructure. We need intelligent systems like Lumilab to operate it at scale,” states Nicolaj Reffstrup, Founding Partner at Look Up Ventures.
Lumilab plans to use the funding to grow its team and expand deployments across global energy infrastructure. The company has not disclosed the size of the round.
The investment comes as energy operators face the operational challenge of managing growing networks of connected assets. As electrification increases the number of charging stations, batteries and other energy systems requiring monitoring and maintenance, automation could help operators coordinate responses across infrastructure without relying entirely on manual intervention.
Lumilab’s approach combines AI-driven task execution with human oversight, allowing operations teams to determine how agents are deployed and which actions they are permitted to perform.
