Helsinki-based Comparables.ai has raised $6 million in seed funding to expand its AI-powered M&A intelligence platform globally, with Pragmatech Venture Capital and Araya Ventures leading the round alongside Purple Ventures, Gorilla Capital, hi5 Ventures, Somersault Ventures and other investors. The company provides corporate development teams, private equity firms, M&A advisors and investment banks with an AI-driven platform for discovering and analysing companies, combining data on more than 370 million active companies with financials, ownership structures, valuations, M&A transactions and verified contacts. Already used by more than 50,000 professionals across 30+ countries, Comparables.ai will use the funding to support multi-market expansion and further develop its AI engine as enterprise customers increase their deployments across regions.
M&A has long been dominated by closed networks and incomplete information. Even experienced buyers and advisors still operate with partial visibility: missed bidders, unseen targets, and market signals that do not travel. In a sector defined by information advantage, most teams still lack it.
Comparables.ai is changing that. Built for corporate development teams, private equity firms, M&A advisors and investment banks, Comparables.ai combines the most comprehensive worldwide dataset covering over 370M active companies with an AI-native discovery engine that maps markets in minutes rather than months. The platform brings together private company financials, group structures, valuation data, M&A transactions and verified contacts. The result is origination coverage previously accessible only to top-tier banks.
Comparables.ai was founded by four operators and researchers who collectively bridge the worlds of deal origination and applied machine learning. Co-founders Niko Nalli, Markus Vesala and Martin Kangasniemi bring hands-on experience in M&A advisory and financial markets, with deep conviction that the information asymmetry defining mid-market dealmaking is a solvable technology problem.
Co-founder and CTO Muhammad Ammad-ud-din brings the technical depth needed to realise that ambition. With a Ph.D. from Aalto University’s Department of Computer Science and postdoctoral research at the University of Helsinki, he specialised in developing machine-learning methods for integrating multiple data sources into recommender systems – publishing peer-reviewed work in leading journals, including Nature Biotechnology, and earning recognition in the NCI-DREAM Drug Sensitivity Prediction Challenge. At Comparables.ai, he applies that expertise to an equally complex challenge: transforming fragmented, inconsistent data from multiple markets and jurisdictions into a unified intelligence layer for private companies worldwide.
Together the team combines the practitioner instincts to know what dealmakers actually need with the technical capability to build it.
“Mid-market M&A has always been a visibility problem,” said co-founder Martin Kangasniemi. “If you cannot see the whole field, you cannot run the best process. We built Comparables.ai to give any deal team the asymmetric advantage of a global bank.”
In practice, that means a corporate development team can map the relevant targets in any market niche before its first internal strategy meeting, a private equity firm can screen add-on candidates across a dozen markets at once, and an M&A advisor can build a complete buyer list without relying only on the relationships it already has. Instead of stitching together registries, databases and spreadsheets, users describe the market they are looking for and the platform returns the companies, financials, ownership structures and decision makers behind it.
“We are seeing a fundamental shift,” Martin added. “Deal teams are taking more of the early market discovery into their own hands, reducing the time and cost of identifying opportunities before engaging external advisors. With our data and technology, teams who have the capital but not the bandwidth can now run a more structured and global search from day one.”
Rupa Popat, Founder and Managing Partner of Araya Ventures, said:
“Araya are excited to back this incredible team of talented operators who are supercharging dealmaking and M&A activity with full transparency, data and true market visibility.”
Artem Yaremchuk, General Partner at Pragmatech Venture Capital, said:
“What gave us conviction was the combination of a strong customer base, including Big Fours, consistent evidence that the product delivers real value in customers’ day-to-day work, and a team with deep M&A expertise. Comparables.ai’s AI-native approach is disrupting a market still dominated by legacy, filter-based tools, giving it a clear competitive advantage. We believe the company can become a category leader in M&A intelligence.”
