A former printworks south of Paris, France, could be converted into a data center.
The 65,000 sqm (700,000 sq ft) factory in Malesherbois, in the Loiret commune, has been sold by printing firm Maury Imprimeur to German industrial property group Garbe for a reported €3 million ($3.4m). Though part of the site could be utilized as a logistics depot, it is also set to host a data center.
It has been vacant since last year when Maury Imprimeur downsized its operations and moved all staff to another site in nearby Manchecourt. Malesherbois is in northern France, south of the capital city, Paris.
According to law firm Osborne Clarke, which advised Maury Imprimeur on the sale, the site “will undergo a comprehensive modernization in order to be repositioned for logistics-type use, with the ambition of creating a sustainable asset that meets high environmental standards, incorporating criteria relating to energy efficiency and space optimization, while limiting its environmental footprint.”
A report in La Republique du Centre said the data center project is dependent on utility firm Enedis authorizing a grid connection to the site. This request is apparently being considered by the power firm.
A target IT capacity, or opening date, for the data center have not been revealed.
Like many other countries, France is in the midst of major digital infrastructure build-out to meet the demands of AI companies. As part of this, brownfield industrial sites across the country are being repurposed as data centers.
Garbe is developing data centers across Europe, including a 350MW facility in Denmark.
