A renewable energy firm plans to develop a data center campus in Lincolnshire, UK.
First reported by GrimsbyLive, Rivington Energy has started a pre-application consultation for a planned data development in Scunthorpe.
On its website, Rivington Energy said the Conesby Data Centre Campus will be developed on greenfield land located off Normanby Road, near to the Bagmoor Poutry Farm. The 20-acre project will be partly energized by a purpose-built, on-site, solar farm.
The data center buildings on campus will total 12,500 sqm (134,538 sq ft). Construction, which could start next year, is expected to take up to 12 months. The facility will have a closed-loop cooling system to reduce water use.
The adjacent solar farm, currently under construction, sits on around 164 acres. The planned adjacent solar farm will sit on around 80 acres.
The company said it will submit the planning application for the campus, incorporating both the data centers and the solar element, to North Lincolnshire Council.
Rivington is holding a community consultation event on May 12 to gather feedback from local residents.
“Comments provided by the local community will be taken into consideration and incorporated into the scheme where appropriate for the formal planning application ready for submission later this year,” the company said.
Founded in 2019, Rivington Energy is a renewable energy development firm, largely focused on solar and battery storage projects. Rivington Energy is majority-owned by investment firm Federated Hermes Limited, which acquired the firm last year.
Lincolnshire has a minimal data center market. Data Center Map currently lists just one facility, a bunker facility from Nasstar (formerly GCI Group) outside Alford. Flexiscale previously had a facility in Lincoln, but it is no longer listed as active.
A 1GW data center campus planned for a former RAF air base near Elsham was granted planning permission in March. UK real estate firm Greystoke is looking to develop a campus known as the Humber Tech Park outside Hull.
