UK-based power solutions provider AVK has launched a modular power system for the hyperscale and AI data center sector.
The AVK PowerPod is a fully integrated, pre-engineered power solution delivered in a transportable modular unit. The unit comprises an engine for power delivery, switchgear, UPS, controls, and enclosures. According to the company, it can connect to the grid and operate completely off-grid, providing flexibility for data center customers looking to power their operations.
AVK claims that the product can be delivered as bespoke units to meet the application-specific requirements of individual customers. In addition, according to the company, the solution is technologically agnostic, which it claims means that customers won’t be locked into a single solution.
The product is immediately available for order for both UK and EU customers.
Commenting on the launch, Ben Pritchard, CEO of AVK, said: “The launch of the AVK PowerPods reinforces our position as one of the few businesses capable of designing, delivering, and supporting the entire data center power ecosystem – at scale, with true flexibility and with the engineering depth that critical infrastructure demands. Large data centers need partners who genuinely understand the full energy picture, and we now own the full power train.
“PowerPods complete our proposition to the market. They bring together our extensive critical power expertise with our technology-agnostic model to deliver a complete power train solution that makes us a reliable, long-term energy partner for data center operators. With our ready-to-deploy PowerPods model, we are perfectly positioned to support the next wave of hyperscale data centers and AI infrastructure.”
AVK is a major supplier of generator units for the data center market. In March 2024, the firm signed its first microgrid agreement with a data center provider in Ireland as part of a broader cooperation agreement with European renewable energy developer Wärtsilä. Under the agreement, AVK will design and install on-site natural gas power generation, with Wärtsilä providing the engineered equipment and maintenance support.
