IQM Quantum Computers has announced the purchase of a 20-qubit Radiance system by Japan’s Toyo Corporation.
According to IQM, the sale represents the first enterprise quantum computer deployment in Japan, and will bolster its presence across Asia Pacific, where IQM has already deployed systems in South Korea and Taiwan.
Toyo is a Japanese provider of advanced measurement solutions primarily across the automotive, energy, and ICT sectors. In a statement, IQM said Toyo will make the quantum computer available to enterprises and researchers across Japan and will integrate the system with high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure.
“Quantum technology is an essential strategic field for future economic growth, especially for the new era of Japanese manufacturing,” said Toshiya Kohno, representative director, president, and CEO, Toyo Corporation. “The competition for practical implementation – such as integration with HPC, use-case development, and business talent development – has already begun, moving beyond theory and research. With the cooperation of IQM, we will promote the social implementation of quantum technologies in Japan ahead of the world.”
Jan Goetz, CEO and co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers, added: “Leading enterprises are building real quantum capabilities by owning the infrastructure, operating it, and growing with it. Toyo’s commitment to this approach represents an important step in realizing Japan´s national quantum strategy based on IQM´s leading quantum computing technology.”
While the deal is the first enterprise quantum deployment in Japan, the country’s government is currently undertaking an ambitious project that is targeting 10 million domestic users of quantum technology and 50 trillion yen ($315bn) in quantum-generated production value by the end of the decade.
Founded in Helsinki, Finland, in 2018, IQM brings full-stack quantum computers and applications to HPCs, research institutes, universities, and business enterprises. The company operates quantum data centers in Finland and Munich, Germany, offering cloud-based access to its systems. In addition to the systems in South Korea and Taiwan, IQM has also delivered quantum computers to supercomputing centers in Poland and Italy.
In February 2026, IQM announced plans to go public via a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) merger with Nasdaq-listed Real Asset Acquisition Corp. (RAAQ). The transaction provides IQM with a pre-money valuation of $1.8bn, while the listing will see it become the first publicly traded European quantum company.
