French firm Nation Data Center (NDC) has acquired a facility in Rennes.
The company this week announced the acquisition of a data center from insurance firm Groupama. Terms of the deal were not shared.
Located in Mordelles and built in 2011, the 3,040 sqm (32,720 sq ft) site includes four 240 sqm (2,583 sq ft) IT rooms totaling 960 sqm (10,333 sq ft) of IT space. The facility currently has 720kW of installed IT capacity, with potential to expand up to 1.36MW.
The facility, rebranded to NDC Rennes 2, is the company’s second data center in the city of Rennes, Brittany.
Nicolas Deuzé and Ludovic Planté, co-managing directors of Nation Data Center, said: “NDC Rennes 2 is intended to form, with NDC Rennes 1, a truly complementary duo of data centers. This architecture meets the growing expectations of our clients in terms of business continuity, security, and performance. The modernization of the site, with a target PUE of 1.3, illustrates our commitment to evolving existing assets towards more lean and efficient infrastructures in order to support regional growth and contribute to a sovereign and responsible transformation of the Breton digital sector.”
Founded in 2020 and previously owned by French investment firm Bakjy Group, NDC was acquired by French investment firm Altarea in 2022. Crédit Agricole is also reportedly an investor.
NDC first announced plans for its Rennes 1 facility in 2022, breaking ground in 2024. The 3MW data center launched last year.
The company is also developing a site in Normandy. Announced in August 2022, the site is due to launch in 2027. The firm aims to operate 15 sites by 2030.
It currently lists one planned site around Paris as a future data center location on its website. Local press has previously reported that the company is developing in the Vélizy area of Yvelines outside the French capital.
Nation has previously listed planned projects in Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, Toulouse, Lille, Lyon, and Strasbourg, and had an agreement to offer space in Thésée DataCenters’ Aubergenville facility outside Paris.
Groupama (Groupe des Assurances Mutuelles Agricoles) is a French mutual insurance group headquartered in Paris. Its G2S technology arm operates two data centers, one in the Mordelles area of Rennes at 2 Rte de Chavagne, and another in Bourges.
