Amazon Web Services plans to invest an additional €18 billion ($21bn) in Spain, bringing its total data center infrastructure investment in Aragon to €33.7bn ($39.5bn).
At MWC26 in Barcelona, the company announced the new buildout, which includes new facilities in the three Aragon provinces.
Notable projects include facilities for the manufacture, assembly, storage, and recycling of servers, including servers dedicated to AI and machine learning, which will generate some 1,800 direct jobs in Aragon.
Amazon will be the first major technology company to build data centers in Teruel, in addition to expanding in Huesca and Zaragoza, consolidating the region as a digital hub in southwestern Europe.
The total investment will contribute €31.7bn ($37bn) to Spain’s GDP by 2035 and support the equivalent of 29,900 full-time jobs per year, of which 6,700 will be directly related to Amazon’s operations.
In Aragon, the impact is concentrated in more than half of the total, with €18.5bn ($21.6bn) to the regional GDP and 13,400 equivalent jobs, boosting local suppliers such as Alan Commissioning, which has expanded its team to 65.
Amazon will allocate €30 million until 2035 to programs in Aragon communities. Its data centers in Aragon have been operating on 100 percent renewable energy since 2022, backed by 100 solar and wind projects in Spain, and are moving toward net-zero emissions by 2040.
In water management, AWS has invested $17.2 million in five local projects to reduce leaks, reuse water on farms, and optimize irrigation with AI, saving up to 50 percent of water on farms such as Finca El Forado.
The AWS Region in Aragon already serves customers such as Telefónica, BBVA, Iberia, Indra, Iberdrola, and the Government of Aragon.
