Nordic data center firm atNorth is targeting a new campus development in Sweden.

The company this week confirmed plans to develop a 300MW data center in Sollefteå Municipality, Sweden.

Located at Hamre Industrial Park in Långsele, the new SWE04 site will be developed on a 50-hectare plot (Hamre 1) and is expected to be operational in H1 2028.

Långsele is a locality in Sollefteå Municipality in Västernorrland County, nearly 500km north of the capital city, Stockholm. AtNorth first bought land in the area in late 2024.

The site will support direct liquid cooling. The company said the site will be able to support densities up to 1MW per rack.

“We face a critical point in time right now, where we must balance unprecedented growth in high density workloads with an increasingly urgent need for sustainable, scalable digital infrastructure,” said Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO at atNorth. “Our Sollefteå campus represents a significant milestone for the company and demonstrates our commitment to building data center ecosystems that deliver both technical excellence and long-term value for local communities.”

AtNorth said it would be pursuing heat reuse partnership for the campus.

Nordic operator atNorth currently operates seven data centers across Sweden, Iceland, and Finland, with more in development in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

The company currently operates one facility in Sweden. SWE01 is located in Kista, a suburb of Stockholm. Launched in 2022, it offers 12MW of capacity across 6,400 sqm (68,890 sq ft). The site is home to Swedish cloud provider 6G AI Sweden and AlphaTon Capital Corp.

A second facility in Stockholm, known as SWE02, is in development. Announced last month and set to be located close to SWE01, the new facility will offer 30MW and is due to go live in Q4 2027.

Last year atNorth sold its HPC-as-a-Service offering, Gompute, to Advania, after previously acquiring the Swedish company in 2023 and taking over a data center in Gothenburg. The Gothenburg site (SWE03) isn’t currently listed on atNorth’s website.

AtNorth was formed as Advania Data Centers in 2012 from three components: Skyrr, a public sector IT specialist in Iceland; Kerfi, a Swedish outfit with roots in a Nokia spin-off called Datapoint, and Hands from Norway. The company de-merged from the Advania Group in 2017 and rebranded to atNorth in 2020. Swiss investment manager Partners Group acquired the company in December 2021.

US colo giants Digital Realty and Equinix are reportedly competing to acquire atNorth, according to a recent report.
