Global electrification firm ABB has acquired Irish electrical engineering consultancy Premium Power to expand its advisory capabilities within the data center market.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, Premium Power provides power system studies, grid compliance and dynamic modeling, arc-flash and electrical safety assessments, power quality audits, and electrical design services. Its client base includes data centers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and industrial operators.
“For more than two decades, Premium Power has built its reputation by helping customers solve complex electrical challenges with technical rigor and independence. Joining ABB allows us to take that expertise further – scaling system-level impact across Europe while preserving the engineering depth and customer focus that define our business,” said Paula O’Neill, managing director of Premium Power.
ABB said that the deal will support its Electrification Service division, particularly its ABB Navigate advisory offering, adding expertise in grid connection, compliance modeling, power quality, and system risk assessment.
“The acquisition of Premium Power strengthens our ability to advise customers on complex power systems, grid connection, and compliance challenges. This expertise is increasingly essential for critical industries such as data centers and pharmaceutical manufacturing, where reliability is paramount,” said Stuart Thompson, president of ABB’s Electrification Service division. “Expanding and modernizing electrical systems – from grid connection through to on-site infrastructure – is central to energy resilience, ensuring reliable power as demand grows and energy networks become more complex.”
The transaction is expected to close in Q1 of 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
ABB, which employs around 110,000 people globally and is listed in Zurich and Stockholm, has made a series of acquisitions in recent years to expand its electrification and services portfolio, particularly in the data center market.
Late last year, the company acquired IPEC, a UK specialist in electrical diagnostics. In the same month, it acquired a minority stake in OctaiPipe, a UK-based AI firm focused on optimizing data center cooling systems.
Before this, in November, it signed a spate of agreements with Texas-based microgrid developer VoltaGrid to supply power system equipment for multiple US data center power projects supporting AI workloads.
