Neutral network provider Boldyn Networks has appointed Christos Karmis as group CEO.
Karmis, currently the chief executive of Boldyn Networks US, takes charge immediately, replacing Igor Leprince, who will leave the company at the end of March.
Leprince will support Karmis through a transition period, noted Boldyn. It brings an end to his nearly six years in charge of the company.
Karmis joined Boldyn in 2021 through the acquisition of Mobilitie, where he served as president and CEO. During his tenure at Mobilitoe, the company became one of the largest privately held wireless infrastructure providers in the US, spanning towers, small cells, and connectivity for major entertainment, sports, and transport venues.
Following the acquisition, Karmis was appointed as CEO of Boldyn Networks US.
Boldyn, formerly BAI Comms until the company rebranded its northern hemisphere operations three years ago, has connected more than 300 public venues globally, whilst simultaneously deploying its connectivity to 75 US military bases, with rights to deploy at an additional 40. The company has also provided support to sports, entertainment, government and enterprise organizations.
Last year, Karmis oversaw the completion of a $1.2 billion debt financing as part of plans to expand its US footprint.
“We have a strong global organization supported by highly experienced teams across all our markets,” said Karmis.
“I look forward to working more closely with colleagues around the world as we focus on delivering the next generation of connectivity solutions for our customers. We will continue to build on our people‑focused culture, spirit of innovation, and relentless customer focus that has established Boldyn as the industry leader.”
Leprince, outgoing group CEO, added: “Christos’ leadership has been fundamental to our success, especially in the US. He has a deep understanding of our business and a proven record of driving meaningful growth and change.”
In Europe, Boldyn is notably supporting the deployment of mobile connectivity across the entire London Underground network in partnership with Transport for London (TfL).
Boldyn was awarded a 20-year concession by TfL in June 2021 to provide high-speed, 5G-ready mobile coverage across the entire London Underground network.
All four UK operators, Vodafone, Virgin Media O2, BT (EE), and Three, have provided their own network coverage on top of the network hosted by Boldyn.
DCD will cover the development of the London Underground network in Issue 60 of DCD>Magazine, out in March.
