European data center firm Penta Infra has acquired a facility in Munich, Germany.
The company announced the acquisition this week, saying the facility will be “fully modernized and expanded” into a colocation data center with 20MW of IT capacity.
Details on the facility, seller, and terms of the deal were not shared.
Penta said that, once operational in 2028, the facility will offer flexible deployment options, including high-density colocation with liquid cooling capabilities. It will make its waste heat available for local heating networks and feature on-site solar panels.
Bob Sprengers, CEO at Penta Infra, said: “Munich is home to some of Europe’s leading enterprise customers and we are excited to bring Penta Infra’s combination of flexibility, sustainability, and European data sovereignty to this market. Whether our customers need traditional colocation or high-density infrastructure for AI workloads, this facility will provide the performance and compliance assurances they require.”
The facility is Penta Infra’s first data center in Munich. Across Germany, the company operates sites in Berlin, Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne. The company opened a second location in Hamburg in September.
Founded in 2015, Penta Infra has data centers across Europe, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark. The company is owned by Photon Capital and PGGM.
Alex Bakker, managing partner at Photon Capital, said: “Munich is one of Europe’s most attractive data center markets, combining a thriving technology ecosystem with strong enterprise demand. This acquisition accelerates Penta Infra’s growth and reinforces our strategy of building a leading pan-European colocation platform. We see significant opportunity to scale this facility and continue our expansion across the continent.”
Matthijs Lakerveld, director of digital infrastructure at PGGM, added: “We believe European digital infrastructure is essential to Europe’s economic future. Munich is exactly the type of strategic investment we look for in the Penta Infra platform.”
Data center operators in the Bavarian city include NTT, Portus, nLighten, NorthC, Equinix, EdgeConneX, and others.
