December capped a strong end to the year for the UK property auction market, with activity accelerating across all key measures, according to the latest data from Essential Information Group (EIG).
Lots offered rose 14.2% year on year, while lots sold increased by 15.1%, rounding off a record-breaking 2025. Over the full year, a total of 41,628 lots were brought to market and 28,975 sold — the highest annual volumes on record — with funds raised climbing 7.1% to £5.9bn, underlining sustained demand across the sector.
Momentum was evident across the regions in the final quarter, led by London, the South East and South West. London stood out in particular, with lots offered up 25.9% and funds raised reaching £400.2m, while the South-West recorded a 33.9% jump in lots sold.
The North West remained the busiest market by volume, selling more than 1,000 lots in the quarter, helping to keep overall activity well ahead of last year despite softer performance in a handful of regions.
EIG’s David Sandeman commented: “The year-end data confirms that 2025 set new benchmarks for auction supply and sales volumes. A record number of lots were brought to market, and sales volumes reached their highest level to date. The strength of supply and the way the year closed suggest that a 30,000-lot sales year is now within reach, with 2026 shaping up as a potential candidate to see that milestone delivered.”
