HoloSolis, the French manufacturer of low carbon PV cells and modules, has secured over €220 million in public and private funding to build one of Europe’s largest solar gigafactories in Sarreguemines-Hambach.

Backed by Calés Technologie and Forming, and long-standing investors including InnoEnergy, TSE, Groupe IDEC, Armor Group, and Heraeus.

Bertrand Lecacheux, CEO of HoloSolis says: “HoloSolis already had strong partners: InnoEnergy, Armor Group, IDEC, TSE, and Heraeus. I am very proud that new partners are joining us! We will be able to benefit from their expertise to build the largest TOPCon cell and module gigafactory in Europe. Several photovoltaic developers have chosen to invest in the project and we have a total of more than 20 GW of customer letters of intent, which demonstrates the strength of our business model.”

In 2025, several European startups active in solar and adjacent energy-transition fields secured new funding, offering context for HoloSolis’ latest raise.

France saw activity through Solarock, which collected €7 million to expand its solar self-consumption franchise model, and Dracula Technologies, which extended its Series A to €30 million to industrialise ambient-light energy modules. In Germany, feld.energy raised more than €10 million to scale dual-use agrivoltaics, while Co-Power secured €6.4 million for on-site storage and industrial PV deployment. In the Baltics, Estonia’s Sunly obtained nearly €85 million to build large-scale Latvian solar parks.

Altogether, these rounds amount to roughly €108 million – substantially below the more than €220 million secured by HoloSolis, highlighting the comparatively larger capital requirements associated with European PV manufacturing scale-up.

Karine Vernier, CEO of InnoEnergy France adds: “HoloSolis embodies the ambition we have had since day one: a strong and sovereign European solar industry. Seeing this project reach a decisive milestone with more than €200 million secured is a source of immense pride for InnoEnergy, a long-standing investor committed to the energy transition.”

HoloSolis was created in 2022 to reshore PV production in Europe. HoloSolis production of PV cells and modules will be an answer to the appetite of EU PV developers for European made panels created by the new European and National regulations.

Thanks to its size, HoloSolis will reportedly bring a sustainable and competitive alternative to PV Panels currently on the market.

Jean-Paul Calès, President of CALES TECHNOLOGIES says: “Investing in HOLOSOLIS affirms our conviction that the energy transition must be supported by a high-performing, innovative, and responsible French industry. Through our subsidiaries, we are committed to promoting national industrial expertise and actively contributing to a more sustainable and sovereign economy.”

The project is set to generate 2,000 direct jobs and reach a production capacity of 5 GW per year. Once fully operational by 2030, the plant will produce enough solar modules each year to power one million European homes, representing a significant milestone for Europe’s energy independence.

The funds will be used to finalise the design of the factory, deploy TOPCon technology, and support recruitment and supply-chain setup.

In doing so, HoloSolis contributes to building a fully “Made in Europe” solar manufacturing ecosystem and strengthening Europe’s energy sovereignty. The HoloSolis facility will help Europe to reach its goal of having 40% of PV deployed in Europe to be made in Europe, as set by the Net Zero Industry Act.

Eric Lauer, Strategic Development Manager at Forming AG shares: “Supporting the reindustrialisation of France is at the heart of Forming AG’s ambitions! Beyond this investment, Forming will contribute its expertise in the interface between photovoltaic panels and structures to improve their performance.”

HoloSolis has secured all the permits it needs to launch construction of its plant in 2026:

–      15 May 2024: signing of the land acquisition contract for the site in Hambach

–      17 May 2024: signature with RTE for a high-voltage connection in 2027

–      24 January 2025: building permit and environmental authorization obtained

–      3 September 2025: technological partnership signed with world PV leader Trina Solar

–      17 November 2025: HoloSolis announces new investors

Franck Leroy, President of the Grand Est Region says: “This is a decisive step forward for HoloSolis’ gigafactory project in Hambach: more than €200 million secured and strengthened partnerships confirm that it will enter the operational phase in 2026. I would like to commend the professionalism and ongoing commitment of the HoloSolis teams. This project contributes to Europe’s energy sovereignty and the reindustrialisation of our regions, with 1,700 jobs at stake.“
